Contract: Full-time
Salary: £32,000 per annum full-time equivalent. 9 months mixed term, 18.45 hours per week,
Closing date: 16/03/21
Start date: 01/04/21
Introduction
Following the opening of Windermere Jetty Museum in 2019, we have brought science, engineering, and ecology together with arts and culture through our exhibition, learning and skills development programme and our Conservation Workshop to reflect the inspiration of our world-class boat collection and its wonderful location on the shores of Windermere. Designed by Carmody Groarke architects, Windermere Jetty Museum has already won several prestigious awards for design and boat conservation.
In 2021, in response to the changes in audience demand in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lakeland Arts is embarking on a 12-month project to make adaptations and improvements at Windermere Jetty Museum thanks to a grant from the Garfield Weston Foundation. These adaptations will enable Lakeland Arts to build on research from last summer and learn more about what visitors want from us during and after the pandemic era so that we can continue to adapt to their needs.
With this investment we will:
1. Extend Windermere Jetty Museum’s outdoor facilities by creating an enticing year-round offer:
• Expand outdoor catering into heated lakeside pods making the most of the location, extended visitor season and audiences staying local. This also includes improving our physical and IT/digital infrastructure.
• Implement STEAMScape, a year-long active research programme that involves outdoor programming, research, creative consultation, testing outdoor interactive exhibits and programmes, building new partnerships and learning with audiences to understand how STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, art and maths) can be brought alive at Windermere Jetty Museum. STEAMScape will inform future capital development and adaptation of external spaces and outdoor programme at Windermere Jetty Museum for the pandemic era.
2. Build online and digital programming into Windermere Jetty Museum’s permanent displays and the 2021 exhibition programme:
• in-museum; delivering an imaginative, engaging, Covid-secure visitor experience using augmented reality for the first time at the museum
• online: expanding programme to people’s own smart devices
3. Develop online retail to increase Windermere Jetty Museum’s income through its shop, providing a reliable income stream even when the museum is closed
