The ROLE...
You will be involved in all aspects of hotel and estate maintenance, including minor electrical work, plumbing, hot tub & pool maintenance, grounds maintenance and everything in between.
Actions and manages the PPM system as dictated by the Maintenance Manager
To undertake plumbing, painting, decorating, carpentry and minor electrical and mechanical engineering work as necessary to maintain safe and efficient systems within the hotel. With
occasional gardening works as and when the business needs
To ensure that all work undertaken is done safely and in accordance with the relevant approved codes of practice.
To respond to the maintenance requests in order of priority and ensure that adequate levels of spares are maintained and effectively used in order to give a high standard of appearance throughout the buildings
To learn quickly the understanding of the site and specifically all items of plant and equipment and all guest facilities
To be responsible for the control of contractors and their equipment when on site. ensuring the proper use of permits to work, safe systems of work and log in/out procedures & PPE
Ensure compliance with Gilpin's policies e.g. H&S/Food Hygiene, FireSafety etc.
To comply fully with the hotel purchasing procedures using designated suppliers and requesting PO numbers to complete orders.
Follow up on action plans and recommendations as highlighted during technical audits completed by the Maintenance Manager
Be Energy conscious and aware of possible energy reduction ideas and suggestions
Be aware of own safety and that of guests and other staff and contractors whilst on site
Testing and recording on a weekly, Monthly and quarterly basis EG: Safety systems, Fire alarm systems. Generators. Boiler room plant equipment. Tv and digital systems. Biomass Boiler. Golf buggies. Ventilation systems. Pond and water treatment systems. Sewage Packet plant.
Any other duties as deemed suitable by the Maintenance Manager and Hotel Owners
Skills/Experience Required
THE PERSON:
A thorough understanding of mechanical and electrical systems.
At minimum of one year’s experience in a similar role in a Hotel or Leisure complex is desireable.
Pool plant trained with certification. Desirable but not necessary as training will be given
A basic knowledge of health & safety legislation.
To be self-motivated. Reliable and polite and friendly to all you meet
Very good communication skills to all levels of personnel.
Good verbal and written English
To be flexible in their approach to working times and conditions
Be willing to work on a weekend rota system with other Hotel engineers (1 in 4)
Good problem-solving skills with a methodical approach
A full driving licence is required

SUBSIDISED ACCOMMODATION
Fantastic subsidised shared staff accommodation, some at the hotel, some in the countryside, and some in the centre of Windermere and Bowness. In all accommodation there is a shared kitchen and lounge area, and some have added extras such as a pool table, dart board and X-box… We spring clean and paint your room before you move in, meet you, show you around, and settle you in with a welcome pack, and check all the accommodation monthly to make sure everything is still lovely. Our staff accommodation ranges from mobile homes to luxury ensuite rooms in Bowness and Windermere (from £130 to £350 per month including bills). If you’re really trying to save and don’t have a lot of stuff, there are a few very small mobile home rooms that we don’t charge anything for.

Free staff transport between Gilpin and the staff houses in Crook, Windermere and Bowness.
ENGLISH LESSONS
We provide personalised English classes (while you’re paid) if you wish to gain confidence and ability to communicate in English. The aim is to motivate and encourage progression here at Gilpin as well as to gain confidence outside of work.
