Job Description

Just a mile away from Gilpin Hotel you will find Gilpin Lake House, a sanctuary where just 12 guests enjoy 100 acres of private grounds, with its own lake, boat house, hot tubs, saunas and swimming pool. With just six bedrooms, the Lake House has the feel of a country house, with all the services of a boutique hotel.

We are looking for a Duty Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Lake House, including its facilities, security and customer service.

Gilpin Lake House is fully serviced with Relais & Chateaux trained staff and Michelin Starred Chefs, our dedicated team also look after weddings from start to finish, which can range from the Bride and Groom only, or up to 120 guests.

Job Duties

To excel in this role, you’ll be someone who:

● Assists in all aspects of each department within the Lake House, whether it be Reception, Food & Beverage, Events & Banquets, Housekeeping and small elements of reservations. You’ll be totally confident with each operation within the hotel.

● Assists with running of banquets and functions, assisting with overseeing the bar, and general service, ensuring everything is smooth running and absorbing the full briefing of the function sheet.

● Excels in a hospitality environment and provides absolute warmth to all of guests ensuring special occasions are acknowledged and ensuring that each of our guests departs the Lake House with special memories.

● Delivers our Love & Laughter programme (Guest Recognition Scheme) to our returning guests.

● Attends Function Meetings in your line manager’s absence; taking notes and making arrangements where necessary; and ensuring the team involved in the function have any updated function sheet notes.

● Hosts all guests and runs the new Lake House Restaurant opening late 2022. Liaises with the kitchen team and ensuring an excellent and smooth service.

● Completes table plans, allergen sheets, and evening team briefs.

● Assists with the control of liquor & non-food-items; managing through our ‘Quadranet’ System and aiming to achieve desirable GPR targets.

● Delegates tasks confidently to team members on shift to ensure standards within the hotel remain high and ultimately all guests are thrilled with everything.

● Acts as a team motivator and driver, able to prioritise tasks. Gets ‘stuck in’ and is well respected and works well within a small team.

● Works with fellow managers to assess and improve current Standard Operating Procedures.

● Contributes to the training and development of the team; ensuring that new Standard Operating Procedures are trained out, and face-to-face training is completed to ensure all members of the team are confident with the tasks in hand.

● Takes responsibility for the Opening & Lock-ups of the hotel and estate, and ensuring both security and health & safety procedures are adhered to.

● Carries out in-depth reviews of guest information and profile items to ensure no details are missed and ensures any additional kind gestures the hotel can deliver are done.

● Liaises with senior manager to ensure all employee and guest issues are proactively dealt with in line managers absence.

● Has great attention to detail and a genuine care for the house and estate, ensuring everywhere looks immaculate at all times.

● Upholds and enforces company policies and ensures standards remain equally as high when senior managers are absent.

SUBSIDISED ACCOMMODATION
Fantastic subsidised shared staff accommodation, some at the hotel, some in the countryside, and some in the centre of Windermere and Bowness. In all accommodation, there is a shared kitchen and lounge area, and some have added extras such as a pool table, dart board and X-box… We spring clean and paint your room before you move in, meet you, show you around, and settle you in with a welcome pack, and check all the accommodation monthly to make sure everything is still lovely. Our staff accommodation ranges from mobile homes to luxury ensuite rooms in Bowness and Windermere (from £130 to £350 per month including bills). If you’re really trying to save and don’t have a lot of stuff, there are a few very small mobile home rooms that we don’t charge anything for.

STAFF TRANSPORT
Free staff transport between Gilpin and the staff houses in Crook, Windermere and Bowness.

ENGLISH LESSONS
We provide personalised English classes (while you’re paid) if you wish to gain confidence and ability to communicate in English. The aim is to motivate and encourage progression here at Gilpin as well as to gain confidence outside of work.
